The ruins of Balquhain Castle are to be found on farmland north-west of Inverurie, and are just about visible from the A96. The ruins represent a 15th century great tower and associated courtyard of buildings erected for the Leslie family.

Balquhain was held by the Leslie family during the reign of David II, but their residence was destroyed in the early 15th century, probably to be rebuilt by Sir William Leslie by the 1450s. The castle was sacked twice in the 16th century, and eventually abandoned as the primary residence of the family in the 1690s. The castle was burned down c1746 and never repaired.
