Strome Castle is a ruined courtyard castle on a tall promontory overlooking Loch Carron on the west coast of Scotland just north of Skye. It is publicly accessible, but the access paths are not level and may prove troublesome for some – in addition parking is not available nearby. However it is an impressive ruin and clearly visible from the roadside.

In plan, Strome was a rectangular courtyard with a tower house at one end. This was the highest point of the promontory, and may have been used previously for a watchtower. The tower appears to have collapsed, and the courtyard may have been repaired with a crosswall replacing it. The castle dates to at least the 15th century and was a stronghold of the Lord of the Isles. It was besieged in 1503, and blown up in 1602 – this was probably the reason for the tower “collapse”. The site belongs to the National Trust for Scotland, and access is free.
