Kinfauns Castle is a large 19th century mansion built in baronial style, and is not open to the public, although it can be seen from a number of roads nearby. There was a tower house at Kinfauns in the 16th century built by the Charteris family, possibly on the same site, although there are other sites nearby that are more defensive in nature.

Kinfauns was sold to Lord Gray in the 1740s, and he was succeeded by two younger brothers, the second of which was responsible for the building of the mansion. Upon Francis’ son’s death in 1867, Kinfauns passed to his sister, and then to their niece Margaret Murray. The castle then served various purposes, including a hotel, but was sold in 2004 to the current owners. Parts of the estate have recently become open to the public, but the castle is not.
